CBC’s indoor training classes are held Tuesday and Thursday evenings October to March. Bill Stevenson leads these classes at 5th Avenue Fitness in downtown Olympia, with workouts designed to improve specific cycling skills such as climbing, time trialing, and sprinting. The class uses the gym’s spin bikes, which accept standard 9/16″ pedals and allow for regular bicycle saddles to be installed. Help and tools for installing pedals will be available.
Classes begin at 6:00 pm. The sessions will vary in length, but will wrap up by 7:15 at the latest. A heart rate monitor is a useful training aid, but not required. Be sure to bring water and a hand towel.
For 2016-17, these classes will be run directly through 5th Avenue Fitness, which means participants are asked to join the gym for the six months of class at a reduced rate of $229. This saves you $50 compared to last year and gives you full access to the gym to lift weights or take group fitness classes. If you are already a 5th Avenue Gym member you can do the class for no extra charge. All you have to do to get the special reduced six-month rate and participate in the class is let them know at the counter you are with the Capital Bicycling Club.
If you don’t want to join the gym because you can’t commit to enough classes to make it worth it you can buy a 10-day use punch card for $80 or you can pay $10 per class and just drop in.
