The Capital Bicycling Club sponsors a variety of group riding opportunities for members. (Non-members are welcome to participate in one ride; after that, our insurance policy stipulates that you be a member to continue to ride with the club.) For your comfort and safety and that of others in your group, please adhere to the following guidelines:
-
Introduce yourself to the ride leader and let him or her know it's your first ride with the group
-
Helmets are required
-
To avoid holding up the group during the ride, perform a brief safety check on your bike (brakes, tire inflation, etc) before beginning the ride
-
Use appropriate hand/verbal signals to warn other riders of obstacles, turns, speed changes, etc.
-
Come prepared to fix a flat or find a way home
-
Pass other riders on the left; make your presence known with an appropriate verbal warning (On your left/right, on your wheel, passing, etc.) when you approach another rider
-
In pacelines or when riding in close proximity, ride in a straight line at a consistent speed
-
Yield to other riders as needed
-
Obey all traffic rules; do not obstruct traffic
-
Bring enough water, food, money, clothing layers, etc. for the type of ride you are joining
-
If you decide to leave the ride, inform the ride leader
